End of Session 2024

The Iowa Legislature adjourned Sine Die today, April 20, bringing an end to the 2024 Iowa Legislative Session and concluding the 90th General Assembly.

Legislation that passes through both Chambers must be signed by the Governor to become law. Most laws are effective on July 1, 2024 but some do contain enactment provisions which specify a different date.

Now that session is over, work will begin on writing New Laws of Interest to Cities. Once the Governor’s veto period has concluded, we will publish this document in Cityscape and send an email through Legislative Link. This document will summarize important changes made and should be used as a reference to explore more detailed analysis.

You can view all editions of Legislative Link at iowaleague.org/resource/legislative-link.

Like our membership, the Iowa League of Cities is a non-partisan, service-oriented organization that does not participate in elections, make campaign contributions, or have a political action committee (PAC).
