• It’s time to contact your legislators and build goodwill prior to the 2024 legislative session. During the interim is the best time to build rapport, and get to know a legislator in anticipation of session.

• Agencies and committees will be submitting recommendations for the 2024 session in the next few months. This includes a review of the state’s boards and commissions.

• Get a preview of some of the issues cities will hear about in the 2024 session by registering for the webinars and policy presentations below. Each attendee will need to register individually. As always, please email LegislativeStaff@IowaLeague.org if you have any questions.

• Join the League and the Iowa Storm Water Education Partnership for a conversation about the Iowa Stormwater Management Manual and legislative opportunities in the 2024 session.
• This webinar will take place on October 10 at 10 am via Zoom. Registration will be required 

• Legislation banning or regulating the use of Automated Traffic Enforcement (ATE) will be considered in 2024.

• Join this conversation to understand how best to advocate for your community as it pertains to the implementation of ATE. 

• Registration will be required. This webinar will take place via zoom on September 28 at 10 a.m.You are asked to complete this survey prior to attending the webinar if your city utilizes ATE.

• Earlier this year, we recorded this webinar on HF718 and what changes cities needed to be aware of for the upcoming budget season.

• To continue this conversation, we will be recording a second presentation designed to provide finer details and nuanced information. You will be able to find this recording by signing up for League Weekly, and it will be posted to the League’s website when it is final.

• With the recent increase in legislation affecting local governments, it is critically important that you get to know your legislator and their goals before session starts. Remember: it is best to know your legislator and build goodwill outside of session when there is no "ask" to be made.
• One excellent way to start a conversation and build goodwill is to host a legislative forum or roundtable. Several cities already have one scheduled, but there is still plenty of time before the 2024 session.
