Dear City Leaders,
Today, March 26, the Iowa House and Senate will each hold subcommittee meetings on their proposed property tax legislation — HSB 313 and SSB 1208. These meetings mark the beginning of the legislative process for these bills, and the League will be providing testimony on their potential implications for cities. |

Current Status |
The League is currently registered as Undecided on both bills. At this stage, our initial modeling suggests impacts on city government operations, but more time is needed to fully analyze the effects. We have been encouraged by recent conversations with legislators that the current bill language is not final and that changes are expected as the process moves forward. These subcommittee meetings are an early step, and we will continue to engage lawmakers to ensure that city perspectives are considered in any revisions.
As we have shared previously, the League is working to finalize a model that will allow cities to better understand how this legislation may impact their individual communities. We expect this analysis to be completed soon and will share more details as they become available.
