An amendment to HF 1 has been adopted by the House Ways & Means Committee. The language of HF 1 was stricken in it's entirety. However, we do not have a linkable document to share until the online system processes the amendment and the bill receives a new number.
The League is still evaluating the legislation and will meet with policy leaders over the next few days to discuss the proposal.
What we see so far appears to be:
- A mailed notice to property taxpayers that shows increases of property taxes.
- A cap on the growth of an individual parcels tax burden increase in total dollars (3% for Residential, 8% for Commercial and Industrial)
- Limits referendums on bonds or indebtedness to be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of each even-numbered year.
- Reduction in the School Foundation Levy of $1 per thousand of valuation.
Once the amendment has been processed online, the bill will receive a new bill number. At the time of sending this email, this bill number was not available. Friday's Legislative Link will contain the specific bill number and a better description of the legislation.
The League will update the webpage resources to help cities understand the impacts of the legislation and communicate these impacts to your legislators.
