The Iowa Legislature has adjourned Sine Die. This marks the end of the regular Legislative Session for 2023.
Many impactful bills were passed this session, including HF 718: Property Tax Reform which included, among other provisions:
- Consolidating many levies into the general fund
- Applying downward pressure on the new consolidated general fund levy
- New notification and procedural steps to certify a budget
- Alterations to homestead and veterans tax credit
The League's legislative staff is developing materials for distribution regarding property taxes and the dozens of other bills passed this session.
Once the Governor's veto period has expired, the League will publish the 2023 New Laws of Interest. This document will highlight every bill that passed this session that affects cities. New Laws of Interest will be distributed immediately via email and discussed in future Cityscape publications.
